Dot-Dot-Dash Natural History Museum

The Dot-Dot-Dash Natural History Museum

Natural History is an observation-based science that looks for patterns in nature with which connections are then made. These patterns and connections can be universally observed and experienced regardless of a person’s culture, language or race.
The combination of these facts led to the name ‘The Dot-Dot-Dash Museum’. Not only does the ‘dot-dot-dash’ make a visual pattern of its own, but when connected together it forms meaning through Morse code which is a relatively universal ‘language’.
In Morse code, ‘dot-dot-dash’ represents the letter ‘U’. This refers to the word ‘Universal’, a concept crucial to the understanding of the nature of Natural History as well as the ethos of the museum. The museum, and therefore all its branding, is dedicated to
encourage its visitors to become aware of and see the patterns in their surrounding
and then to make connections.
